What is SBTi?

  • The Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) is a globally recognized collaboration involving the CDP, WRI, WWF, and the UN Global Compact.

  • The SBTi’s goal is to promote the adoption of goal-setting practices grounded in scientific research to achieve net zero emissions by 2050.

  • This involves aiming to keep global warming significantly below 2°C, and preferably below 1.5°C compared to temperatures before industrialisation.

  • The Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) is a globally recognised voluntary corporate climate initiative, originally founded by CDP, the UN Global Compact, WRI, WWF and the We Mean Business Coalition.

  • It provides standards, tools and guidance to help companies and financial institutions set credible, science-based emissions reduction targets.

  • These targets support efforts to limit global warming to 1.5°C above pre-industrial levels and achieve net-zero emissions by 2050.
